Before you can grab the bull by the horn you have to know how big the bull is.
Beware of that last 10%.
Solid analysis is very important: Users don’t know what they want until they get what they asked for.
Take ownership of problems.
Don’t pass the buck.
Stick to the essential – there are always unimportant distractions that can take up time & energy.
See the goal and a clear path to the goal. Only then you can take the straight line and avoid detours and eternal mazes.
People make it happen; care for your resources; don’t put too much pressure but put enough pressure.
Manage by objectives.
Build quality into every step.
Have a clear milestone plan to measure progress against.
Assign 100% to complete tasks. Visually having lots of 100%’s motivates the staff.
Absolutely avoid these phrases: "I can't do"; "It's not easy"; "It's difficult".
It is critical that you view others (and yourself) without an image. This is the only way to have a responsible relationship!
It's ok to leave some mess behind when buzzing forward as a result of clear perception/insight, as long as you go back and clean it up -- only then you can take another leap forward!
You must manage your manager effectively.
Do not make commitments you cannot keep.
All communications should be: 1) rooted in affection 2) persuasive toward what you're trying to accomplish.
Feel sense of urgency.
Manage your manager.
Always speak the truth.
Always act truthfully.
Pm role – to get people to do what they’re supposed to!! Because some people don't like their job or for other reasons don't do things unless they have to...
